Left-hander Wei-Yin Chen (pictured) was on his way to his second strong performance in a row when he grabbed at his side and exited Sunday's game with a right oblique strain. That's very bad news for a team that already has called on four Triple-A starters to fill in the fifth slot in the rotation and replace injured Miguel Gonzalez. It was a tough week already, after so-so outings by Jason Hammel, Freddy Garcia and Steve Johnson, and that was reflected in the combined numbers. The rotation posted a 2-2 record with a 6.03 ERA and averaged just five innings per start. Even though the team managed to go 4-2 in those games, this is starting to get scary.

Orioles shortstop J.J. Hardy received some scary news when the team’s charter flight touched down in Chicago Sunday evening.
That’s when Hardy got word that a storm system that terrorized many parts of the midwestern U.S. and spawned numerous tornadoes leveled the condominium of his grandmother, Carol Shinn, in the town of Creston, Iowa on Saturday evening. Shin was uninjured, but her home was destroyed.
“I wasn’t really following the weather so I didn’t even know about the tornadoes going on,” Hardy said. “I found out when we landed yesterday.”
Hardy said his grandmother’s home was in the direct path of the tornado, which reportedly had 135 mph winds and injured six people.
“Everything’s fine, she’s fine,” Hardy said. “My dad sent me a photo of her standing outside the condo and it was leveled. It’s kind of a scary thought. But I don’t know what’s going to happen now with the condo and where she’s going to live.”
