Britton joined the team in Detroit on Friday, but won't be formally recalled until before Saturday's game.
The 24-year-old was optioned to Triple-A Norfolk on Aug. 8 after struggling through his first five major league starts of the season, but he made just one start for the Tides before returning to the big league club.
Orioles manager Buck Showalter said before Friday's game that choosing Britton would be mainly a need-based move. The Orioles had been operating with a four-man rotation because of Monday's off day.
The Orioles will have to make a roster move, most likely optioning right-hander Steve Johnson to Norfolk. Johnson was the other candidate to start on Saturday, but he threw two relief innings on Thursday night.
Britton is 1-1 with an 8.10 ERA in five major league starts this season. He's allowed four or more earned runs in four of his five starts and has gone six innings in just one.
