The game was scheduled to be played this morning at 10:30, but has been moved back to 11:45 a.m. Jason Hammel, Jair Jurrjens, Steve Johnson, Mike Wright and Eduardo Rodriguez are scheduled to throw in the game, and Wilson Betemit, Nolan Reimold and Taylor Teargarden are expected to serve as hitters to get their plate appearances up.
“I really want to get these guys not pitching in the [indoor] cage and get them outside,” Showalter said. “Also with Tea and Wilson and Nolan, to get them some live at-bats.”
Here’s what else is going on during today’s off day:
-- Chris Tillman (abdominal soreness) played catch today with no complaints and is improving. He’s day to day.
-- Nolan Reimold (sore throwing shoulder) threw from 90 feet without problems. Showalter said he’s “getting closer” to returning to the field.
-- Catcher Luis Martinez (left oblique strain), who has been reassigned to minor league camp, is a full go. He will play in major league spring training games as the Orioles weigh whether Martinez or Luis Exposito will be No. 3 on the organization’s catching depth chart.
-- Tsuyoshi Wada (Tommy John surgery) threw from 60 feet yesterday in between bullpen sessions.
-- Top position player prospect Jonathan Schoop went 1-for-4 with a run and a walk in the Netherlands’ 10-6 loss to Japan in the World Baseball Classic.
-- The Orioles named Nelson Norman the director of baseball operations in the Dominican Republic. He will oversee all of the organization's activities in the Dominican, including the team's academy and summer league team.Copyright © 2015, The Baltimore Sun
