Adam Jones, Matt Wieters out of lineup in finale; updates on Jonathan Schoop, Michael Morse

There were incredibly long lines at Camden Yards before gates opened this morning for the final game of the season.

The first 25,000 fans 15 and over will get a Chris Davis bobblehead. Davis was selected for a bobblehead by the fans earlier in the season. Before the game, Davis will be given the annual Most Valuable Oriole award.

“I love what he’s done defensively and how he’s handled all the attention,” Orioles manager Buck Showalter said. “It would be real easy to give in, a little pass on some phase of the game, as good as he’s having offensively, but he hasn’t.”

Center fielder Adam Jones and catcher Matt Wieters aren’t in the starting lineup today. Jones has a sore left wrist and right shoulder. Wieters has appeared in 148 games, including 134 starts behind the plate. If this game had playoff implications -- the Boston Red Sox have already clinched home-field advantage throughout the playoffs -- both would probably be in the starting lineup.

Inside the Orioles clubhouse, equipment bags and moving boxes are all over the place, the truest sign of the end of the season.

Showalter said he won’t have extended conversations with players individually today. He prides himself in open communication with players on a daily basis, so he said nothing special is necessary.

“If I have to do that now on the last day, I haven’t been doing my job,” he said. “There’s a conversation you have every day. Sometimes the greatest emotion, the greatest things show themselves not in silence, but just by a look in the eye. I’ve already had it four or five times, you lock eyes and you know. Our guys get it. They also get what we have to do to bridge the gap between where we are and [where we need to be].”

-- Jonathan Schoop saw team orthopedist Dr. John Wilckens on Saturday and appears to be OK after turning his back awkwardly on a rundown play two days ago. Schoop said he still plans to play in the Arizona Fall League, unless the team believes it is in his best interest to rest.

-- Michael Morse will see hand specialist Dr. Brian Schofield in Florida on Wednesday to examine his injured left wrist. He is also has an appointment at the Mayo Clinic on Wednesday.

-- There’s still no word on whether Kevin Gausman will pitch in instructional league or the Arizona Fall League, as Showalter mentioned Saturday. Showalter said that ultimately the decision will be Gausman’s. In his first full professional season, Gausman has thrown 129 2/3 innings, including 47 2/3 at the major-league level.
