In rare display of patience, Orioles' Adam Jones walks twice Saturday

Adam Jones hasn't walked often this year. After all, the Orioles center fielder hasn’t really needed to, with his .293 batting average and 18 home runs.

But in Saturday’s 7-3 loss to the Toronto Blue Jays, Jones walked twice as part of a 1-for-2 performance in which he also hit a home run. It was the All-Star’s first two-walk game of the season, 16th of his career and first since Sept. 10, 2012. He has never walked three times in a game in his career.

“Just try to string together good at-bats,” Jones said. “I’m not going up there trying to walks. If it happens, it happens. If it don’t, it don’t, but just trying to string together better at-bats [to] help the team.”

Earlier this season, Jones went 43 games without a walk between May 19 and July 3. Jones has three walks in the past four games.

"There's a fine line there between aggressive and being selective,” manager Buck Showalter said. “We like Adam, period. And all that comes with it. We're lucky to have him."

Jones is batting .293 with 18 home runs and 65 RBIs this season.
