The Orioles play the Washington Nationals in their 111th game of the season tonight at Nationals Park. Orioles right-hander Kevin Gausman is scheduled to pitch against Nationals right-hander Tanner Roark, and first pitch is set for 7:05 p.m.
How does this year's squad stack up through 110 games against successful Orioles teams of the past? With high expectations this season, we'll try to track how the club is performing periodically compared to previous years when the Orioles made the playoffs.
As long as the Orioles remain in playoff contention, we'll track their performance against history. If they fall out of the pennant chase, we'll look at their record in different ways.
With a 62-48 record, the Orioles are 3 1/2 games ahead of the Toronto Blue Jays (60-53) in the American League East division.
Here's how the Orioles fared in previous seasons when they made the playoffs.
With the bases loaded and one out in the bottom of the 14th inning, Adam Jones lined a single into right field to score Omar Quintanilla for the game-winning run in the Orioles' 8-7 win over the Seattle Mariners. The Orioles trailed, 5-0, heading into the bottom of the second inning, but they scored four runs in the bottom of the seventh to tie the game at 7. Right fielder Nick Markakis had four hits in the victory, which lasted four hours, 55 minutes.
