O's-Norfolk game still on as scheduled; Hendrickson signs with York

By 11:30 a.m., the Orioles hadn’t yet arrived to Harbor Park in Norfolk, Va., but they are on their way and it looks like a game could happen here at the scheduled 3:05 p.m. first pitch.

It’s currently not raining right now in Norfolk, and the forecast has an 80 percent chance of rain until 3 p.m. It drops to 70 percent at 3 p.m. and then a 60 percent chance from 4 to 6 p.m.

Suk-min Yoon will start for the Orioles, and minor leaguer Tyler Wilson, a Virginia native and University of Virginia product, will start for the Tides.

There have been close to 9,000 tickets sold for this exhibition, so the Orioles are going to try to get this in for their Triple-A fans. Also scheduled to pitch are Mike Wright for the Orioles side and Zach Davies and Jake Pettit for the Tides.

The hope is that the Orioles will announce their 25-man roster here, but it is basically set anyway. The assumption is Jonathan Schoop, Evan Meek, Steve Pearce and Delmon Young all make the team. It’s pretty much a matter of simple math. Although I guess there could be some changes.

In other news, 39-year-old lefty Mark Hendrickson, who was 5-3 with a 3.06 ERA and two saves in 40 games for the Norfolk Tides last year, has signed a contract with the independent York Revolution.

Hendrickson lives in York, Pa., year-round. The 6-foot-9 former NBA player and veteran pitcher of 10 big league seasons reinvented himself last year as a sidearmer at the suggestion of Orioles manager Buck Showalter.

Hendrickson played three seasons with the Orioles, from 2009 to 2011, going 8-11 with a 4.80 ERRA in 113 games. He pitched in 328 games in his big league career.
