After giving up a home run and a single to the first two batters in the eighth inning, right-hander Francisco Rodriguez exited Friday's loss to the Colorado Rockies with a strained right groin. He said after the game the soreness bothered him the past week, but it was worse against the Rockies.
Similar soreness bothered Rodriguez in 2011, but he plans to keep pitching after treatment Saturday. Manager Buck Showalter said he thinks Rodriguez wanted to catch the soreness early before it got worse.
"Lots of players go through pain and soreness and injury," Rodriguez said. "You have to be able to recognize what's an injury, what's soreness. I'll take it as this is soreness and, like I said, wrap it up and go get 'em."
Showalter said the team will probably make a roster move before Saturday's game to bolster the bullpen's depth.
