The Bowie Baysox are trying to put some romance in the air at Prince George's Stadium.
The Orioles' Double-A affiliate is holding a "Date Night at the Diamond" promotion July 6. And if you don't have a special someone to take along to watch the likes of Manny Machado and Jonathan Schoop face the Harrisburg Senators, they've got you covered.
The Baysox are holding a date auction featuring members of their staff and two players: first baseman Rhyne Hughes and outfielder Robbie Widlansky.
They may not be household names, but Widlansky is batting .302 with a team-high 47 RBIs and this week was chosen for the Eastern League All-Star Game.
Hughes is batting .271 and has hit three homers in 20 games.
(Have to admit, I'm not sure which baseball metrics the female fans are using these days to analyze their potential dates.)
Proceeds from the auction will benefit Habitat for Humanity, so if turns out to be a terrible date, at least in this case it was for a worthy cause.
