Conor Jackson and Luis Martinez leave Tuesday's workout with injuries

First baseman/outfielder Conor Jackson (lower back) and catcher Luis Martinez (left oblique strain) left Tuesday’s workout with injuries, but both players said their setbacks weren’t serious.

Jackson said he felt tightness in his lower back while fielding ground balls.

“Just with three games left before games start, I wanted to be careful about it,” said Jackson, who expects to be back by the time the Grapefruit League schedule begins Saturday. “That’s kind of what the trainers preach from day one. If you’ve got something, you don’t want to let it linger. I don’t think it should be an issue.

“I haven’t taken ground balls in a little while, so it’s a a new body movement for me. I don’t think it’s going to be a stupid long period period.”

Martinez said he strained his oblique swinging a bat, but said he expected to be back  Wednesday.

“Very minimal,” Martinez said. “I just wanted to take care of it before it got any worse, especially in that area. It can be very sensitive.”
