Dylan Bundy pitches one inning, gives up two HRs, in extended spring training game

Top pitching prospect Dylan Bundy threw one inning Tuesday in extended spring training against members of the Minnesota Twins organization, the first time he has faced hitters other than Orioles farmhands since spring training in March 2013.

Bundy, 21, threw 18 pitches, giving up two home runs, and his fastball reached 90 to 92 mph. He is scheduled to pitch again Saturday, throwing up to 30 pitches or two innings.

“I texted him last night. I know it was a big day for him,” Showalter said. “I’m glad he got it behind him. He felt good.”

Showalter laughed when asked about the home runs.

“I really paid the same attention to it if he had struck out all three guys,” Showalter said.

Bundy had Tommy John elbow ligament replacement surgery last June and has been rehabbing in Sarasota, Fla., for most of the past year.

There is no set timetable for Bundy's return, but the organization would like to see him pitching in the minor leagues in June, perhaps at Double-A Bowie.

It remains a possibility that Bundy could help the Orioles in the second half.
