Right hander Bud Norris, acquired from the Astros just before Wednesday's non-waiver trade deadline, will make his first Orioles start Thursday against his former team.
That allows the Orioles to give right-handers Chris Tillman and Scott Feldman an extra day of rest. Chris Tillman will start Friday's series opener against Seattle, while Feldman will pitch Saturday against the Mariners, filling the spot originally slated for right-hander Jason Hammel, who was placed on the 15-day disabled list on Wednesday with a right flexor mass strain.
Wei-Yin Chen will pitch Sunday against Seattle as originally scheduled.
Norris, who was scratched from scheduled starts both Tuesday and Wednesday, hasn't pitched since last Wednesday, when he allowed three earned runs on four hits over 6 1/3 innings against Oakland. So he will pitch on a full week of rest.
