Britton's visit to Dr. James Andrews reveals no damage, but shelves him for up to six weeks (UPDATED)

Orioles left-hander Zach Britton has no structural damage in his injured left shoulder, but it continues to appear likely that he will start the season on the disabled list after his visit with renowned orthopedist Dr. James Andrews on Wednesday.

Britton visited Andrews in Pensacola, Fla., for another opinion on the recent flare up of inflammationon his left shoulder. Andrews saw no structural damage, but he received two rounds of platelet rich plasma injections to help settle the inflammation.

Orioles manager Buck Showalter said he believed the injections would keep Britton out of any baseball activities for 7 to 10 days. Britton said he was told my Andrews that the entire recovery could take up to six weeks.

That rules out any hope of Britton making the team's Opening Day roster and likely shelves him throughout the season's opening month.

Britton has been hindered by the inflammation since last August and has been on a steady throwing progression all spring. He was slated to pitch in a minor-league game on Monday, but that appearance was scratched when he felt a flare up.
