The Orioles have been keeping a close watch on Tropical Storm Andrea as it batters Florida with high winds and rain – at one point fearing that they wouldn’t be able to fly out to Tampa on Thursday evening.
Kevin Buck, the club’s coordinator of team travel, made contingency plans to keep the Orioles in their Houston hotel Thursday night if needed. But, as of Thursday afternoon, the club was told it should be OK to fly into Tampa after the game.
“I think we’re OK. Last night, Kevin made plans to stay here. The hotel could take us. That was a [potential] problem,” Orioles manager Buck Showalter said. “There was a chance we might fly back to Baltimore tonight. But as we stand right now it looks like we’ll be able to get into Tampa if the weather patterns continue. With the winds and what have you, we know how that can change. We are prepared to either stay here or go on to Tampa.”
