Left-hander Wei-Yin Chen (pictured) was on his way to his second strong performance in a row when he grabbed at his side and exited Sunday's game with a right oblique strain. That's very bad news for a team that already has called on four Triple-A starters to fill in the fifth slot in the rotation and replace injured Miguel Gonzalez. It was a tough week already, after so-so outings by Jason Hammel, Freddy Garcia and Steve Johnson, and that was reflected in the combined numbers. The rotation posted a 2-2 record with a 6.03 ERA and averaged just five innings per start. Even though the team managed to go 4-2 in those games, this is starting to get scary.

And outfielder Steve Pearce is back in Baltimore.
With this season the way it has gone, did you expect anything less?
Pearce, 29, was with the Orioles for about two months this year and had a couple big games. But he was waived at the end of July and claimed by the Houston Astros and then waived by the Astros and claimed by the New York Yankees, who actually had him in their minors earlier this year before selling him to the Orioles on June 2.
The Yankees claimed him from the Astros on Aug. 27 and then waived him this week – and now he is back with the Orioles, who claimed him today.
Not sure if he gets frequent flier miles or not.
Pearce appeared in 28 games for the Orioles this season, hitting .254 with three homers. He had a five-RBI game against his original team, the Pittsburgh Pirates, on June 14 and a huge homer against C.J. Wilson and the Angels on July 6.
For the season – that includes games with the Orioles, Astros and Yankees – batted .229 with four homers in 40 combined games.
To make room for Pearce, the Orioles put pitcher Oliver Drake on the 60-day disabled list. Drake has had an injured shoulder most of the season.
