On Tuesday, the Major League Baseball Players Alumni Association named center fielder Adam Jones as the Orioles’ recipient of the 2014 Heart and Hustle Award.

The honor values athletes who “demonstrate a passion for the game of baseball and best embody the values, spirit and tradition of the game” and is the only big league award voted on by former players.

Jones, along with the 29 winners from the other clubs, was selected for his work ethic and passion for baseball.

“He represents all the best qualities of a teammate and competitor,” Brooks Robinson, Orioles Hall of Fame third baseman and Major League Baseball Players Alumni Association president, said in a statement. “The way he plays the game sets an example for young players to follow.”

The center fielder will be recognized at an upcoming home game. A final winner of the Heart and Hustle Award will be selected by fans, players, and alumni and announced Nov. 18 at the 15th annual Legends for Youth Dinner in New York City.

Jones didn’t have to hustle too much Monday. He took slow jogs around the bases twice after hitting a pair of home runs in the Orioles’ 4-2 win over the Los Angeles Angels.
