Here are Adam Jones' thoughts on being named Most Valuable Oriole:
On winning MVO:
“It’s pretty cool, but there are other deserving guys. Like I’ve stated, I’ve lobbied for Jim Johnson and our whole entire bullpen and pitching staff. I appreciate it, but I can’t do none of this without my teammates. They are the reason why we’re all out here and are where we’re at. It’s getting named to me, but it is a team award. I think the whole team deserves it.
On if this award has more significance than last year’s:
“We are winning, so it is cool. But there are other guys. Wieters is leading us in RBIs, CD has 30 and 81, there are other offensive guys that have done a great job. It gets named to an individual player, I’m lucky to be named it but I look at it is this could be shared and I hope to share it with my teammates because we are all in it together. It’s been a great year for us all.
“Palmer? I need to do something that Palmer hasn’t done. I’ve got the key to the city. Palmer doesn’t have one of those. He probably does. But that’s a good list. I’m not going to get ahead of myself when it comes to the Hall of Fame. Trust me. But it’s a team award.”
On improving each year:
That’s what you are supposed to do. To get better, that’s what you strive for. You never want to regress, you want to progress. As you get older, I’m sure some point in time you slow down, but I’m still young. I’m still 27. I’ve still got a lot of innings to go out there and play center field.
On being arguably the most popular Oriole:
“I am the coolest Oriole. That’s pretty known. I’m the coolest in here, you know, personality-wise. I’m cool. I know that. … Wieters is cool, but he is quiet, calm, collected, to himself.”Copyright © 2015, The Baltimore Sun
