The Orioles couldn’t touch him, and Kazmir was pursuing a no-hitter into the seventh inning. Save a four pitch walk of Orioles catcher Matt Wieters in the fifth, and Kazmir could have been chasing perfection.
But third baseman Manny Machado ensured Kazmir wouldn’t post the second no-hitter in Camden Yards history. Leading off the seventh, the 20-year-old laced a ball past Indians third baseman Lonnie Chisenhall and into the left field corner for his major-league leading 36th double of the season.
Machado would later score on first baseman Chris Davis’ sacrifice fly to cut the Cleveland lead to 2-1.
It was the second consecutive night the Orioles were held in check by Cleveland pitching. Indians right-hander Justin Masterson held the Orioles to one run through six innings Tuesday night before the Orioles posted a five-run seventh in the 6-3 comeback win.
