Detroit right-hander Max Scherzer struck out 10 batters, holding the Orioles to three runs and three hits in eight innings. But after Tigers closer Jose Valverde entered in the ninth inning, the Orioles rallied for four runs to win, 7-5, over the eventual American League Central champions. Nick Markakis led off the ninth with a solo home run before Adam Jones and Chris Davis hit back-to-back singles. Valverde retired the next two batters before Dickerson connected for the walk-off home run to right-center field.
