When he was traded to the Orioles' organization in December as part of the Ramon Hernandez deal, Brandon Waring was hoping just to get noticed by his new employers.

"Going into a new season with a new team, you just try to put your name on the map," said Waring, who hit 26 homers and batted .273 at Single-A Frederick to earn the organization's 2009 Brooks Robinson Minor League Player of the Year award.

"That's what I tried to do every day, just come out and keep the same approach, not put too much pressure on myself," Waring said. "Everything worked out, and I had a good year."

The 23-year-old corner infielder was honored in an on-field ceremony Wednesday along with left-hander Brian Matusz, the Jim Palmer prize winner for the organization's top pitcher, and Caleb Joseph, recipient of the Elrod Hendricks Community Service Award.

Also honored were scout Jim Howard (Jim Russo Scout of the Year Award) and Triple-A Norfolk pitching coach Mike Griffin ( Cal Ripken Sr. Player Development Award).

"It's definitely a great honor," Waring said. "I was surprised, but I had a good season, and I'm glad they thought highly enough of my numbers to bring me out here and give me this award."

Reimold misses 2 straight
Left fielder Nolan Reimold, who has been battling a sore Achilles tendon in his left foot, was rested again Wednesday after being unavailable Tuesday.

"It just flared up. It didn't feel too good the last game I played," Reimold said. "I'll be ready to go [Thursday]."

It's likely Reimold will have surgery in the offseason to repair the Achilles tendon.

Minor leaguer suspended
Freuny Parra, a catcher for the Gulf Coast League Orioles, was suspended 50 games by Major League Baseball on Wednesday for testing positive for Boldenone, a performance-enhancing substance. The suspension will start at the beginning of next season.

Originally signed by the New York Yankees' organization, Parra, 21, played in 12 games with the Gulf Coast League Orioles in 2009, hitting .324 in 37 at-bats.

Around the horn
Reliever Kam Mickolio (right biceps inflammation) still hasn't resumed throwing, and it appears the Orioles will decide soon whether to shut him down for the rest of the season. ... Hall of Famer Brooks Robinson will take part in a ceremony Friday to honor Melvin Mora, who is second on the franchise's all-time games-played list at third base, behind only Robinson.
