7. Which starting pitcher will emerge as the ace?( Kim Klement / USA Today Sports / March 25, 2014 )
The Orioles' biggest weakness last season was the starting rotation. Although the Orioles won 85 games, only right-handers Chris Tillman (above) -- who will start Opening Day this year -- and Miguel Gonzalez reached double-digits in wins in 2013.
The club used 14 pitchers to start games last year, and the starters' combined ERA (4.57) tied for 26th in the major leagues. Orioles starters allowed 145 home runs (most in the majors) and 1,621 total bases (second-most behind the Minnesota Twins).
The Orioles hope Jimenez, who had 10 quality starts and a 1.82 ERA in 13 games after the All-Star break last season, develops into a reliable pitcher who can follow Tillman at the top of the rotation. He'll start the second game of the season against Boston.
