Phelps withdraws from international meet
TOKYO - Michael Phelps, who won seven gold medals at this year's world swimming championships, will not take part in an upcoming international swim meet in Japan.
Phelps, of Rodgers Forge, was not on the latest list of American swimmers taking part in the event at Chiba International Swimming Center that runs tomorrow through Friday, organizers said yesterday. He originally had been scheduled to swim in the 100-meter butterfly and 200-meter individual medley.
Organizers did not disclose the reason for his withdrawal.
