Strawberry signs 2-year Suns deal
Former Maryland guard D.J. Strawberry signed a two-year contract with the Phoenix Suns yesterday. He will receive the rookie minimum salary of $427,163 for 2007-08 with a team option for the second season. Strawberry, taken with the 59th overall pick in the NBA draft in June, finished ranked among Maryland's all-time leaders in points, assists and steals.

• FIBA Americas // Three years after its stunning loss to Puerto Rico in the Olympics, the United States got a measure of payback with a 117-78 rout last night in Las Vegas. LeBron James scored 21 points and Carmelo Anthony (Towson Catholic) added 17 for the Americans, who clinched a spot in Saturday's semifinals -- where a win would earn them a berth in the Beijing Olympics. Puerto Rico handed the United States a 92-73 loss, its worst ever, in the 2004 Games in Athens, Greece.
