Fells Point's Michael Phelps headlines the roster for the 2009-2010 national team released by USA Swimming. Also among the 110 team members are Ryan Lochte, Rebecca Soni and Aaron Peirsol.
Professional soccer: D.C. United announced it will induct former forward Raul Diaz Arce and late former team broadcaster Danilo Noel Diron into the team's Hall of Tradition at halftime of the home game against Seattle Sounders FC on Sept. 12.
WNBA: Marissa Coleman (Maryland) and Monique Curry each scored 13 points to lead Washington, but the Mystics (13-15) fell to the host Seattle Storm, 78-68, on Tuesday night to remain in a three-way tie for the final playoff spot in the Eastern Conference. Janell Burse scored 14 and Sue Bird added 13 for the Storm, which went on an early 31-9 run and is one win away from clinching a postseason berth.
Pro football: The Baltimore Mariners re-signed defender Joe Taylor, a Laurel resident who played at Morgan State, for the 2010 season. Taylor totaled 21.5 tackles, three interceptions and one fumble recovery, and scored two touchdowns in nine games for the Mariners in the 2009.
