Georgia team, Japan in final

David Umphreville Jr. had a two-run single as Warner Robins, Ga., advanced to the Little League World Series final in South Williamsport, Pa., with a 5-2 win yesterday over Lubbock, Texas. Warner Robins will play Japan, which beat Curacao, for the title today.

Anthony leads U.S over Canada
Carmelo Anthony (Towson Catholic) scored 25 points to lead the United States past Canada, 113-63, in the FIBA Americas tournament in Las Vegas.

Kuznetsova wins Pilot Pen in Conn.
Top-seeded Svetlana Kuznetsova won her first title this season when qualifier Agnes Szavay retired with a back injury while leading, 6-4, 0-3, at the Pilot Pen in New Haven, Conn. This was the third straight match Kuznetsova won because her opponent quit. Szavay led 5-3 in the first set when Kuznetsova hit a crosscourt shot. Running to hit a backhand, the Hungarian reached back to return the shot and immediately grabbed her back. She took a medical timeout during the next changeover, and received more treatment between sets. But it became clear after three games of the second set that she could not continue.

Massa takes pole for Turkish GP
Felipe Massa took a step toward repeating last year's victory at the Formula One Turkish Grand Prix after claiming the pole in Istanbul. The Ferrari driver had the fastest time in qualifying for today's race at 1 minute, 27.329 seconds on the 3.316-mile Istanbul Park circuit.

• Champ Car World Series // Sebastien Bourdais won his fifth pole of the season in the final qualifying session for the Belgian Grand Prix in Zolder. Bourdais completed the 2.5-mile Zolder circuit in 1 minute, 12.821 seconds at an average speed of 123.2 mph.
