It doesn’t do any good to fire Ozzie Guillen. It doesn’t do any good because he’s not to blame. The White Sox players are.
Blame them. Trade them. This Sox season is o-vuh.
The Sox never trailed this much last year, so don’t give me any of that 25-5 stuff, and besides, 25-5 wasn’t good enough last year. The Sox choked against the Twins in August.
New season, same old choking story. It's not any one thing, it's everything. No hitting, no fielding, no baserunning, sometimes bad starting pitching, almost always bad relief pitching. It’s the players’ fault, and they’re everywhere. Adam Dunn, hurt and bad. Juan Pierre, useless. Alexei Ramirez, got his awards and money and apparently decided to retire. Brent Morel, out of his league. A.J. Pierzynski, Alex Rios, Gordon Beckham -- can you say “yard sale,’’ Kenny Williams?
Get what you can for Mark Buehrle. St. Louis wouldn’t give you Albert Pujols, but the Cardinals would give you something big if you threw in a reliever. Their bullpen is so bad that Will Ohman might even look good, and if you made it failed closer Matt Thornton and/or Rios or Pierre, then you might talk them into Colby Rasmus.
Either way, Pierre has to go. He had trouble catching the ball early and now he can’t steal bases. He never did have an arm, and he’s hitting only .248, so why is he still here? What good is he?
Bench him if you can’t trade him. You certainly can’t continue to start him. You can’t continue to play a lot of these guys.
It’s been years since Pierzynski threw out anybody, and now he has trouble stopping pitches in the dirt.
What am I offered for Gavin Floyd? He’s going to rattle off a good stretch and look like an ace. Always does. Then he flies off to Planet Gavin, a place in the cosmos rarely found by even the Hubble Telescope.
I’d certainly talk Beckham, too. I realize he might figure it out, but there’s no indication it’ll be here. Matter of fact, he’s the Sox’s hood ornament: Stink to start the season, stink to end all hope, probably have a good second half to fake like you’ve got the answers, and then stink to start the next season.
Make. Me. Sick.
Make. A. Deal.
The Sox are done, so Williams had better get started
