USC's offense is looking crisp and effective as the first quarter ends at Sun Devil Stadium.
Quarterback Cody Kessler has completed all five of his passes for 48 yards. Tre Madden has run for 59 yards in five carries, and freshman Justin Davis has 37 yards and a touchdown in three carries.
The Trojans and Sun Devils are tied, 7-7, but USC clearly has the momentum as its line is opening huge holes for the running game and giving Kessler plenty of time on most occasions.
Meantime, the Arizona State offense has stalled after going 80 yards on its first possession. The Sun Devils have gained just 23 yards in 10 carries.
USC's running game just shifted into gear on a eight-play, 89-yard scoring drive.
Tre Madden started it off with a 27-yard gain and freshman Justin Davis finished it by blazing 26 yards for the touchdown.
Big block by Marqise Lee on Davis' touchdown run.
USC ball at its own 11 with 8:22 left in the first quarter.
Arizona State leads, 7-0.
USC's first possession: three plays and punt.
Will Sutton, Arizona State's star defensive end, sacked quarterback Cody Kessler on USC's first play.
Sutton was an All-American last year when he had 13 sacks. That was his first this season.
Looks like USC punter Kris Albarado, the Pac-12 special teams player of the week, will have plenty of chances to repeat.
