USC's next football coach could be....Chad Morris?
I get paid to know who he is, but what about you?
The list basically rounds up the list of usual suspects: Former USC star Jack Del Rio, now the defensive coordinator with the Denver Broncos, leads the odds at 3-1 followed at 5-1 by Boise State's Chris Petersen and Vanderbilt Coach James Franklin.
Here's a report that says Del Rio would not leave Denver before his contract expires in February.
Petersen has seemingly turned down every job that has opened in the last five years. Franklin might be very available.
San Francisco 49ers assistant coach Greg Roman is 6-1 followed by current USC defensive coordinator Clancy Pendergast at 7-1. (Really?)
Others in the odds mix:
Kirby Smart, Jon Gruden, Steve Sarkisian: 8-1.
Smart is currently defensive coordinator at Alabama, Gruden is an analyst on ESPN and Sarkisian is coach of No. 15 Washington.
-- Chad Morris: 8-1. Give up? He's the offensive coordinator for Dabo Swinney at Clemson.
-- Herm Edwards: 15-1. His name is on the short list of every speculator because, as you remember from his coaching days, he "plays to win the game."
-- Ed Orgeron: 20-1. He's been named the interim USC coach and is a former head coach at Mississippi, where he went 10-25 but did recruit and coach offensive lineman Michael Oher from "The Blind Side" fame.
