On the first anniversary of dying, some thoughts on living

Sera shuffled and dealt.

"It's not the Koch brothers," she said, confirming recent news reports that the conservative billionaire brothers had kicked the tires but lost interest in buying the paper.

She threw down another card — the Magician.

"It's Rupert Murdoch," she declared.

Better than the Kochs, I said.

And the Dodgers?

Sorry, Los Angeles. Sera said it's not in the cards this year.

I guess I've got to hang around at least another year to see it happen, and Sera said she thought I'd make it that far.

No guarantees, of course. But I do hope to survive until this coming Sunday, when I host the Firehouse Cook-off at The Taste food and wine festival on the Paramount Studios lot. At last year's event, I was just out of the hospital and feeling so woozy, I thought I might die for the second time in 10 days.

Seems like yesterday. But like I said, time really flies when you're back from the dead.
