MAN ABOUT TOWN

At Beacher's Madhouse at the Roosevelt Hotel

Hence, the Beacher’s franchise is finally reaching terminal velocity. TV shows are in the works. This night, Maxim magazine is here.

No surprise then that this is one of Miley Cyrus’ favorite joints, and she flew some of the mini-performers to New York for her infamous/disturbing MTV Video Music Awards appearance.

As Hannah Montana used to say: “Sweet niblets!”

Miss Cyrus, usually so nuanced, seemed overly crass that night, as if she didn’t like herself much. But her winsome little Hollywood hangout is less vulgar, mostly naughty fun — PG-13 rather than R. If I’m reading it right, Beacher’s is mocking our fixation with the thuggish and increasingly lewd world of pop music.

Sure, it’s not for everybody, and probably not even for me. I’ve pretty much graduated beyond this sort of Big Onion indulgence, though no one really should. Not me. Not Marlowe.

To do so is to admit defeat. Besides, why limit yourself when so many others will do that for you?
