Theo Epstein said he was not nervous but “eager” for his first season as the Cubs' new president.
“Opening day is the one day of the year that doesn’t feel like any other day,” Epstein said Thursday before the Cubs' opener at Wrigley Field. “(It) feels like a holiday, a celebration, and that’s great, but that second day of the year is when it all really kicks in.”
Asked if he felt pressure after being lured from Boston during the offseason, Epstein replied:
“Just the pressure we put on ourselves to build a championship organization. There’s nothing we can do on opening day . . . to accomplish that. It’s a grind to get there. This is just one day of it.”
