Giants, Cardinals players use social media to lobby Giancarlo Stanton to join their teams

At least three teams — and countless outside observers — are awaiting word on whether Giancarlo Stanton will waive his no-trade clause to go to the San Francisco Giants, St. Louis Cardinals or neither. In the meantime, a handful of players on those teams have taken to social media to try to influence Stanton to join them.

The Marlins are trying to trade Stanton, the NL MVP, and the Giants and Cardinals are the frontrunners. Both teams reportedly have agreed to the framework of potential deals with Miami.

But no deal involving Stanton can happen without Stanton’s approval. Hence, good-natured, light-hearted online lobbying.

Giants reliever Cory Gearrin got things started with call to action for fans to show Stanton and Japanese star Shohei Ohtani, who is considering signing with the Giants, why they should come to San Francisco.

Giants outfielder Hunter Pence made an appeal to Stanton through their mutual interest, high-quality Halloween costumes …

… but Dexter Fowler, Cardinals outfielder, questioned whether Pence’s plea was a good idea for Pence personally.

St. Louis infielder Kolten Wong used self-deprecation in his appeal. Wong — listed at 5 feet, 9 inches — noted that while Stanton is friends with The Rock, Wong is “The Pebble.”
