When: Saturday, 7:15 p.m.
Coaches: Lars Tiffany, Virginia; Charley Toomey, Loyola
Players to watch: Michael Kraus, sophomore, attackman, Virginia; Pat Spencer, junior, attackman, Loyola
Outlook: The Cavaliers are making their first appearance in the NCAA tournament since 2015 and their first under Tiffany, who has reshaped the team to play the run-and-gun style reminiscent of his squads at Brown. Kraus leads the offense with 43 goals and 37 assists, but he’s day-to-day after an injury in the Atlantic Coast Conference tournament final. He’ll have help from three 30-goal scorers in sophomore midfielder Dox Aitken (35), freshman attackman Ian Laviano (35) and senior attackman Mike D’Amario (31). The Greyhounds have weapons of their own in Spencer (31 goals, 55 assists) and a pair of 30-goal producers, senior midfielder Jay Drapeau (39) and freshman attackman Kevin Lindley (33). Loyola needs to perform better than its .425 faceoff percentage, considering Virginia’s .583 success rate.
