Navy trending upward in men’s lacrosse media poll

The Navy men’s lacrosse team made one of the biggest leaps in the latest Maverik media poll announced Monday morning.

The Midshipmen (8-4) moved from No. 17 to No. 14 in the rankings. That rise matches Cornell’s move from No. 9 to No. 6 and Penn State’s shift from No. 14 to No. 11.

Reigning NCAA champion Maryland (10-1) remained at No. 1 for the second week in a row with Albany (10-1) staying at No. 2. No. 3 Duke (11-2), No. 4 Denver (9-2) and No. 5 Yale (9-2) round out the top five.

Johns Hopkins (8-3) dropped out of the top five, falling from No. 4 to No. 7 after Saturday’s 14-12 loss at the Nittany Lions (8-4). Loyola Maryland (9-3) moved from No. 10 to No. 8 after a 2-0 week, while Syracuse (7-4) and Rutgers (8-4) slipped two spots each to Nos. 9 and 10, respectively.

There are three new teams in the poll. They are Georgetown (8-4) at No. 17, Massachusetts (8-4) at No. 18, and Penn (6-6) at No. 20. They replace then-No. 16 Vermont (10-2), then-No. 18 Lehigh (8-5) and then-No. 20 Michigan (7-5).
