Men’s lacrosse National Player of the Week (April 17): Connor Kelly, Maryland

Connor Kelly, Maryland, senior

Easton, Conn., midfielder

The top-ranked Terps’ ability to escape an upset bid by No. 10 Rutgers on Sunday was powered by Kelly’s play. The 6-foot, 190-pound three-year starter had four goals and four assists and had a hand in all five of his team’s goals in the first half, with two goals and three assists. Then with Maryland trailing 9-8 with less than five minutes left in the fourth quarter, Kelly assisted on redshirt freshman midfielder Anthony DeMaio’s goal to tie the score at 9 and then scored his final goal to give the team an 11-9 lead. Kelly’s 60 points this spring are the most by a Terp through 11 games since Bob Boneillo in 1978, and he ranks sixth in Division I in points per game at 5.5.
