Win over Virginia boosts Loyola in Inside Lacrosse women's media poll

Loyola's season-opening 16-12 win at Virginia Saturday boosted the Greyhounds to No. 8 in this week's Brine Inside Lacrosse women's media Top 20.

The Greyhounds got six goals from Hannah Schmidt, five goals and two assists from Marlee Paton and 11 saves from goalie Molly Wolf, a Bryn Mawr graduate, to avenge last season's loss to the Cavaliers. Virginia was ranked No. 8 in preseason but dropped to No. 13 with their second loss of the season, having fallen to No. 4 Northwestern, 13-12 in their first game of the season.

Defending national champion North Carolina held onto the top spot while Maryland remained No. 2.

Another Atlantic Coast Conference team, Boston College, was the biggest mover of the week, jumping from 17 to No. 10 after giving Notre Dame a rude introduction to the ACC. Mikaela Rix had six goals and an assist to lead the Eagles 15-10 over Notre Dame.

Other teams from Maryland retained their rankings: No. 12 Navy and No. 19 Towson. Johns Hopkins received votes but did not crack the Top 20.

Following is the Top 20. For complete details, see the Inside Lacrosse website.
