Maryland men's lacrosse releases 2014 schedule

With the start of its season less than a month away, the Maryland men's lacrosse team has released its schedule for 2014, its last year in the Atlantic Coast Conference before moving to the Big Ten.

“We have, and always will, have one of the toughest and most challenging schedules in the country, and this year is no exception,” said coach John Tillman, who is entering his fourth season with the Terps. “We also want to get into key areas that are important for our fans and alumni, and this year’s schedule does just that. We’re especially pleased to have the opportunity to play two games in New York, where many of our current players are from and where many of our alums are from and still live. It’s also exciting to get out to the Midwest, which is an emerging area for lacrosse.”

The Terps are coming off last year's 10-4 campaign in which they reached the NCAA tournament for the 11th straight season -- the longest active streak in Division I men’s lacrosse.

After a home scrimmage against Bucknell (Jan. 25) and a scrimmage at Pennsylvania against the Quakers and Drexel and (Feb. 1), the regular season begins Saturday, Feb. 8 vs. Mount St. Mary’s. Maryland then hosts UMBC on Saturday, Feb. 15, marking the first time since 2011, and just the fifth time since 2000, that the Terps have started a season with back-to-back home games.

The following weekend finds Maryland hitting the road for its ACC opener at Syracuse on Saturday, Feb. 22.

The Terps return to College Park to host defending national champion Duke on Saturday, March 1. Maryland will then play at Stony Brook for the first time since 2003 on Saturday, March 8.

The Terps will host Villanova on Friday, March 14 before heading out for a two-game road trip. Maryland plays at future Big Ten foe Michigan for the first time on Tuesday, March 18 and plays its final ACC game at North Carolina on Sunday, March 23.

Maryland welcomes Virginia to Byrd Stadium on Sunday, March 30 and will then have a quick turnaround when it hosts high-scoring Robert Morris on Wednesday, April 2.

The Terps and future conference opponent Johns Hopkins will play for the 111th time on Saturday, April 12 at Homewood Field.

Maryland wraps up its 2014 road schedule at Notre Dame on Saturday, April 19 when it plays a regular-season game in South Bend, Ind., for the first time since 2003.

The annual meeting with Navy will take place on Saturday, May 3, which will also be the Terps’ senior day.
