Terps rookie Zoe Stukenberg was named Co-Freshman of the Year and coach Cathy Reese is the Coach of the Year.
Douty, a junior from Fair Haven, N.J., leads a Terps defense that has held teams to eight goals per game. They have allowed only six of 20 opponents to reach double digits.
Stukenberg, last year's All-Metro Player of the Year at Marriotts Ridge, ranks fifth among the Terps in scoring with 32 goals and nine assists. A starter in all but one game, she scored four goals in her first college game.
Reese, a Mount Hebron graduate and former All-America attacker at Maryland, closes out her ACC career with her sixth-straight Coach of the Year honor and her seventh in eight years as Maryland's head coach. She has the No. 1 Terps at 19-1 with the top overall seed in the NCAA tournament that begins this weekend.
While the Terps were earning their final ACC honors as they move on to the Big Ten next season, other honorees were earning their first ACC awards.
In Syracuse's first year in the ACC, Kayla Treanor earned Offensive Player of the Year honors. The sophomore leads the nation in scoring with 102 points and is second in goals with 70.
North Carolina's Sydney Holman shared Freshman of the Year with Stukenberg. Holman is second on her team with 61 points and has a school freshman record with 27 assists. Holman, however, will miss the rest of the season after tearing her left anterior cruciate ligament in the ACC quarterfinals.Copyright © 2015, The Baltimore Sun
