River Hill's Marlatt earns Big East honor
Notre Dame junior midfielder Jim Marlatt (River Hill) earned Big East Conference Offensive Player of the Week honors after scoring a career-high five goals in the No. 4 Fighting Irish’s season-opening 13-5 win at then-No. 6 Duke on Saturday.
It is the second such award for Marlatt, who added an assist for a career-best six points. The five goals were the most for an Irish player since 2010, and he is the first to record at least six points in a game since 2009. Marlatt also had a career-high five ground balls and two caused turnovers.
Stevenson women to face Wales on Thursday
The Stevenson women’s lacrosse team will play the Wales national team on Thursday at 3:30 p.m. at Mustang Stadium in Owings Mills. Tickets will be sold at the gate on game day: $5 for adult, $3 for seniors (60 and over), $3 for students without a Stevenson ID, and free for children under 12, Stevenson faculty and staff, and Stevenson students with ID.
“This is a World Cup year for women’s lacrosse,” Mustangs women’s lacrosse coach Kathy Railey said. “During a World Cup year, teams from around the world typically travel to the United States, Canada, England, or Australia to play at the top level of lacrosse. Wales decided to come to this heavily concentrated area of Baltimore to play a few teams and asked us to be one of them.”
According to Railey, no team in the history of Stevenson/Villa Julie athletics has ever hosted an international team.
Fans are invited to watch the Chesapeake Bayhawks players and coaches receive their championship rings Saturday from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Pratt Street Ale House at 206 W.
