UNC's Stephen Kelly to miss Hopkins game after wrist surgery

Freshman midfielder Stephen Kelly (Calvert Hall) underwent surgery on his broken right wrist this week and will be out indefinitely for No. 6 North Carolina, including Saturday's game against No. 10 Johns Hopkins in Baltimore.

Kelly suffered the injury in the first quarter of last Tuesday's 13-10 win over Harvard but completed the game, winning 13 faceoffs against and getting eight ground balls. He missed Saturday's 11-8 victory over then-No. 1 Maryland.

North Carolina used Brent Armstrong (6-for-16), Boys' Latin grad R.G. Keenan (0-for-4) and Stephen's brother Frankie Kelly (1-for-3) on Saturday. Stephen Kelly was winning 61.2 percent of draws.

"We're thrilled the surgery for Stephen was successful. We wish him a speedy recovery and look forward to the future date when he is medically cleared to compete again," said coach Joe Breschi.

Kelly leads Carolina with 47 ground balls this season and also has scored a pair of goals while committing only one turnover.
