Maryland's women's lacrosse team took over the No. 1 ranking in Monday's Inside Lacrosse Brine Division I Women's Media Poll Top 20.

Johns Hopkins also rose to its highest ranking of the season at No. 5, up from No. 8 thanks to a 12-11 overtime victory at then-No. 5 Northwestern on Sunday.

The Terps (15-1) rebounded from their 17-15 loss at North Carolina on April 5 with wins over Princeton, 8-7, and Virginia, 13-8. They moved from No. 2 to No. 1 after North Carolina's 12-9 loss to Syracuse on Saturday. It was the second loss of the season for the Tar Heels, who fell to Northwestern three weeks ago.

The Tar Heels (12-2), who had held the top ranking since defeating Maryland in last year's national championship, 13-12 in triple overtime, dropped to No. 3.

Syracuse (13-1) moved up one spot to No. 2. The Orange, who lost only to Maryland, 12-10, on March 10, received three votes for No. 1 while Maryland received six.

Florida and Johns Hopkins round out the top five with No. 6 Boston College and No. 7 Northwestern dropping two spots each.

Loyola slipped a spot to No. 15 despite wins this week over American and Boston University. Ohio State's win over then-No. 12 Penn State vaulted the Buckeyes over the Greyhounds to No. 13.

Navy held onto the No. 20 spot with wins over Lehigh and Holy Cross.
