Loyola jumps back into the women's media Top 10

Loyola's women's lacrosse team jumped back into the Top 10 after ten weeks away as the Greyhounds rose to No. 9 in this week's Inside Lacrosse Brine Division I Women's Media Top 20, the final poll until after the NCAA championships.

The Greyhounds, who won 12 straight games before falling at No. 2 Syracuse, 14-12 in overtime Saturday, jumped up from No. 11. Their good showing against the Orange combined with previous No. 8 Penn State's first-round American Lacrosse Conference tournament loss to Johns Hopkins helped Loyola get back into the Top 10.

Maryland, which did not play last week, remained atop the poll for the fourth straight week. The Atlantic Coast Conference champions have the best record in Division I at 19-1 as they earned the overall top seed for the NCAA tournament.

Johns Hopkins slipped to No. 7 out of a tie for sixth with Northwestern. The Blue Jays fell to No. 3 Florida 11-6 in the ALC semifinals. Northwestern fell to the Gators 9-8 in the title game.

The Top 10 still reflects the dominance of two conferences -- the ACC, which had six of the top eight seeds for the NCAA tournament and the ALC, which had the other two.

The ACC has four of the top five teams in this week's poll and five overall. After Maryland and Syrause are No. 4 North Carolina, No. 5 Boston College and No. 10 Duke. In addition to Florida, the ALC has Northwestern, Johns Hopkins and No. 8 Ohio State.

Patriot League champ Loyola is the only team other than Stanford to break the ACC-ALC chokehold on the Top 10 in the last six weeks.
