Sophomore midfielder Danny Jones of St. Anthony's High in Melville, N.Y., has orally committed to play lacrosse for Johns Hopkins, continuing a trend of early recruiting that shows no signs of slowing down.
Jones was a starter on the Friars' freshman team before a concussion derailed his season. A member of the Long Island Express, he participated in the New England Storm Invitational, Tri-State and NSCLA Showcase. The 5-foot-9, 155-pound recruit also participates in football and basketball. Jones also considered Duke, Maryland and Syracuse.
In other sophomore commitment news, midfielder Drew Petkevich of Bullis School in Potomac has committed to Penn State. A member of the Baltimore Crabs, he attended the National Scholastic Club Lacrosse Association's National Cup, Crab Feast, King of the Hill and the Terrapin Fall Classic, in addition to earning All-Star appearances at the Philly Showcase. Petkevich also considered Michigan, Fairfield, Towson, Bucknell and Georgetown.
According to Inside Lacrosse, 99 players in the Class of 2015 have made an oral commitment to a college.
