Major League Lacrosse announced that Denver defenseman Lee Zink (Maryland) won Warrior Defensive Player of the Week honors after the Outlaws' 14-12 win over the visiting Chesapeake Bayhawks on Saturday afternoon.
One of the best shutdown defenders in the league, Zink focused on Chesapeake attackman John Grant Jr., limiting the veteran to a single assist as Denver moved to 12-0 on the season and clinched the top seed at Championship Weekend.
The 2012 Defensive Player of the Year has anchored the Outlaws, who lead the league in fewest goals against and shots against this season.
Denver will continue its quest for the first perfect regular season in MLL history Sunday when it visits the New York Lizards. CBS Sports Network will broadcast the game live at 5 p.m.
Kerr returns to Shoremen as assistant coach
Washington College announced the hiring of former Shoremen standout Tim Kerr as an assistant coach.
Kerr was a two-time All-Centennial Conference first-team selection in 2005 and 2006 and an USILA All-American honorable mention honoree as a senior in 2006. A two-time captain, he scooped up 219 ground balls, netted eight goals and passed out seven assists for 15 points in 69 career contests.
During Kerr's four years, the team went 54-17, reached the Centennial Conference tournament all four seasons, participated in the NCAA tournament three times and was a part of the 2003 Centennial Conference Championship. As a sophomore in 2004, Kerr helped Washington College reach the NCAA Division III semifinals.
From 2007 to this year he was head coach for the boys varsity lacrosse team at Kent Island High. He guided the Buccaneers to an 89-24 record and on four occasions coached the team to the regional championship and the semifinal round of the state tournament.
Warrior Sports announced the signing of two standout MLL midfielders -- Cam Flint of the Boston Cannons and Drew Snider (Maryland) of the Denver Outlaws. ... Severna Park rising senior defender Luke King committed orally to Navy. He also considered Ohio State, Towson, Monmouth, Air Force and Jacksonville. King played for SOCO and Predators lacrosse clubs this summer and was named to the Baltimore Under Armour Underclass All-America team.
