No. 1-ranked and undefeated Maryland had six student-athletes selected to the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association All-Region team, announced Tuesday. Seniors Katie Schwarzmann (Century), Alex Aust, Iliana Sanza (St. Paul's) and freshman Taylor Cummings (McDonogh) were all named to the All-South Region first team, while sophomore Brooke Griffin (South River) and freshman Alice Mercer (Century) earned second-team honors.

Schwarzmann, who earned her second straight Atlantic Coast Conference Offensive Player of the Year honor Monday, was named to the first team All-South Region for the fourth time at Maryland. A native of Sykesville, Md., Schwarzmann became only the third player in league history to earn four career All-ACC honors. She enters the postseason having tallied 51 goals and 23 assists this year.

Sanza and Aust received their second All-Region selections.

All six Terps, along with the rest of the 128 Division I selections, are eligible for inclusion on the IWLCA All-American teams, which will be announced May 17.

Terps' Jesse Bernhardt honored in ACC

Maryland senior long-stick midfielder Jesse Bernhardt was named Atlantic Coast Conference Defensive Player of the Week after forcing three turnovers Saturday in an 18-6 victory over Colgate, his final regular season home game.

Bernhardt and the Terps' defense limited reigning Tewaaraton Award winner Peter Baum to one goal on four shots.

Division III women

St. Mary's freshman midfielder Shelby Newman and sophomore defender Paige Decker claimed spots on the IWLCA All-Chesapeake Region teams. Newman gained a first-team nod, while Decker repeated as a second-team pick.

Five Washington College players were named All-Centennial Conference. Senior attackman Bennett Cord and sophomore midfielder and faceoff specialist Michael Trapp were chosen to the first team, junior midfielder Hunter Nowicki (Franklin) and junior defenseman Casey McKnight were placed on the second team, and senior long-stick midfielder Jonny Poe received honorable mention.

Maddux scored a team-leading 35 goals en route to earning his first career all-conference honor. He also had 11 assists to rank second on the team with 46 points.
