Jeremy Mattoon, who guided Hood's men's lacrosse team for the past two seasons, will not be back for a third.

Adrienne Mullikin, the college’s sports information director, said Monday afternoon that Mattoon did not coach in the Blazers’ regular-season finale against Widener on Saturday.

The team’s assistant coaches shared the head-coaching duties in a17-7 loss. Mattoon’s name and bio are no longer on the team's website.

Citing privacy laws, Mullikin declined to discuss the reason for Mattoon’s departure. Mullikin said a national search for his successor will begin soon.

“We do obviously want to get someone in here as soon as we can, but we want to make sure that we find the right candidate,” she said.

Efforts to reach Mattoon were unsuccessful.

Hood compiled a 15-35 record under Mattoon, whose first season with the program was his most successful. In 2011, the Blazers posted their first victory in the Capital Athletic Conference, ending a 31-game losing skid to league opponents, qualified for the conference tournament, and established a single-season record with eight wins.

This year, Hood finished with a 3-14 mark and went winless in eight games in the Middle Atlantic Conference.
