A source close to the program has confirmed to Inside Lacrosse that former Georgetown associate head coach Matt Kerwick will be named an assistant coach at Cornell.
Kerwick will take over for Matt Rewkowski (Johns Hopkins), who recently left to take Kerwick’s former position with the Hoyas under new head coach Kevin Warne (who was previously Maryland’s offensive coordinator).
Many expected Kerwick to take over when longtime Georgetown head coach Dave Urick retired, but Georgetown let Kerwick go in late June after it was found out he was cited for a DWI in April. Kerwick spent two seasons as head coach at Jacksonville before returning to Georgetown in the summer of 2011.
Prior to Jacksonville, Kerwick spent seven years as the head coach at his alma mater, Hobart. He also starred for the Baltimore Thunder of the now-defunct Major Indoor Lacrosse League. Kerwick, whose offensive acumen is highly regarded in lacrosse coaching circles, steps in at Cornell under head coach Ben DeLuca for 2011 Enners and Turnbull Award winner Rob Pannell’s final season with the Big Red.
