Broken hand to keep out Navy's Kiernan at least two more games

Sophomore long-stick midfielder Pat Kiernan is not expected to return until at least March 10 when Navy visits Lafayette, coach Rick Sowell said.

Kiernan broke his hand in the team’s 14-7 victory over VMI Feb. 11. Kiernan, who scored a goal and collected six groundballs against the Keydets, sat out the Midshipmen’s 13-7 loss to Jacksonville last Sunday and will likely miss upcoming contests against No. 4 North Carolina this Saturday and reigning Patriot League champion Bucknell March 3.

“We hope it’s just for a couple more weeks,” Sowell said Wednesday. “We’re probably not looking to have him back for Bucknell, but we may have him back for Lafayette. Knock on wood, that will be the case.”

Sowell did say that junior Jordan Seivold is scheduled to make his 2012 debut this Saturday. The two-way midfielder has been sidelined by a sprained wrist.
