Astros 7, Angels 4

KEY MOMENT: There were five of them, actually, Jason Castro's two-run homer to left-center in the first, solo shots by Matt Dominguez to left in the second, Jesus Guzman to left in the fourth and Alex Presley to right-center in the fifth, and Jonathan Villar's two-run shot to right off Angels reliever Matt Shoemaker in the seventh that gave the Astros a commanding 7-1 lead.

AT THE PLATE: The Angels (2-4) rallied for three runs in the ninth when Albert Pujols singled, Josh Hamilton doubled, Raul Ibanez hit a two-run single, Howie Kendrick singled, and Erick Aybar hit run-scoring single to make it 7-4 and bring the tying run to the plate. But with two on, Houston reliever Chad Qualls struck out Kole Calhoun on a breaking ball in the dirt to end the game.

ON THE MOUND: Right-hander Scott Feldman, who signed a three-year, $30-million deal with the Astros over the winter, seemed to lull the Angels with his deliberate pace. He gave up one run and three hits, struck out one and walked two in seven innings to improve to 2-0 with a 0.66 earned-run average.

IN THE FIELD: After Pujols and Hamilton reached in the ninth, Villar, the Houston shortstop, made a leaping grab of David Freese's rocket of a line drive, which seemed headed for the gap in left-center, for the first out of the inning.

EXTRA BASES: Sunday marked only the third time in Jered Weaver's eight-year career that he gave up four homers in a game. The others came in old Yankee Stadium on Aug. 2, 2008, and at Seattle on Aug. 29, 2006. The last Angels pitcher to give up four homers in a game? Joe Blanton in Wrigley Field last July 9. … Hamilton had two hits, improving his career average against the Astros to .356 (68 for 191) with 16 homers and 41 RBIs in 53 games.

UP NEXT: Left-hander C.J. Wilson (0-1, 9.53 earned-run average) will oppose Houston right-hander Jarred Cosart (1-0, 0.00) at Minute Maid Park on Monday at 11 a.m. PDT. On the air: TV: FS West. Radio: 830.
