What is not to love about road races? I mean two hours after the race Kasey Kahne tweets out that he was headed out to Joe Gibbs racing to meet who ever will come outside. Feuds? And lefthanders, you got a love it.
Sure it's hard to pass there, but that is what makes it fun, all that bumping and pushing. The last lap at Watkins Glen the past two seasons have been some of the best racing we've seen all year, though admittedly last year was better than this year. It was still fun to see if Kyle Busch could hold off a hungry Brad Keselowski or if they would both wreck and Martin Truex, Jr. would pounce on the opportunity.
"It was just run as hard as you can, drive your car, try not to worry about what's behind you, whatever happens happens, and we'll deal with it," and Busch. "You know, I commend Brad for doing a better job this year at bringing home a cleaner race."
Keselowski and Busch raced each other clean, but not everyone did.
"Well, there's always temptation, yeah. You're a married man. I'm sure you look through Maxim magazine. It's no different," said Keselowski. "Maybe something a little more vulgar than Maxim magazine. But I'm just saying there's always temptation, but I'm just saying he probably has looked at a magazine with a girl that looks really hot. It doesn't mean there isn't temptation, but there's a level of respect and a code of honor that you have to have as a man."
I love it! you don't get those kind of quotes after Michigan. No disrespect to our fine friends to the north, but hard racing just bring out the emotions of drivers and most weekends we just don't get enough of it.
And it all goes back to the fact that the racing is just harder, because its just different. Even though full time NASCAR drivers are much better road racers then they were even 10 years ago, it is still easier to force them into a mistake.
"You kind of approach it a little different than you do an oval, I would say," said Truex. "But at the end of the day, it still is all about if you can see the leader you're tasting it. You want it. You're doing everything you can to try to get the lead."
Which you can't do when the leader has a two and a half second lead on second place. I know we will never get it, but I can dream can't I for another road course race...maybe in the chase? Come on NASCAR, the Glen in the Chase? How much fun would that be?
